Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a colorful mix of heroes, and a exciting storyline including angels, fiends, and malevolent powers growing in strength within the city.
Heads-up: Key plot points for Episode 3 of the new season are included.
The Soldiers Table Unveiled
The latest chapter concluded with a dramatic pause and revealed the premier party of characters who will separate from the primary party to undertake their separate journey, distinct from the remaining groups.
The Soldiers table consists of Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).
The Reason for Division
Considering a large ensemble, it was obvious from the beginning that keeping everyone at a single group would be unworkable.
This explains, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Introduction, weaving together the individual narratives before dividing into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Planners, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
According to the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy gameplay experience where diplomatic options are scarce.
Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might look out of place, but the events of the latest installment demonstrate why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the team has a clear idea where to go next after a intense opening clash with the antagonists.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose passing initiated the campaign’s events—manipulated the foes for his own means, invading the hidden lair, striking Thimble, and taking all the powerful objects to dispose of.
The antagonist then paid off his debts and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Moreover, each character has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as the companion and best friend, desires vengeance.
- Kattigan has experience in the region and cautions that it is a nasty place.
- Tyranny and The healer, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to eliminate Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
- But, their position as important members in House Halovar could enable the group reach places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Moreover, Teor vowed a eternal obligation to The cleric for his deliverance and will now follow him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
In addition, all of them are wanted by the authorities that rule the setting for a multiple motives, making lingering locally too risky:
- The agile adventurer and The hero are notorious outlaws.
- The strong figure and Wicander betrayed the influential house and the army of fiends they are allied with.
- Teor is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This leaves them few options but to journey toward the remote area in search of the antagonist.
Future Episodes
From the recent installment’s Cooldown, we learn that the combat party will be absent next week, leaving the rest of the participants to assemble the Explorers and Planners tables.
Viewers can expect discovering which players will be assigned to which table in the season’s last Overture episode, released on next week.
